Darlaston keep second clean sheet of the season

Darlaston extended their league unbeaten run to 6 games with a comprehensive win in front of a crowd of 137 at the Paycare Ground.

Darlo manager Andy Parkes made just one change from the team that drew with Worcester Raiders, recent signing James Filkins making his debut in place of Ashley Justin who dropped to the bench.

The home side made an excellent start forcing two corners in the opening 3 minutes, both coming to nothing. Playing against his former club striker Hayden Hughes was keen to impress and created two early chances for himself firstly creating a clear chance on 5 minutes when he out muscled his marker to break clear, his 15-yard shot going wide. The striker was in action again on 8 minutes with a similar result, this time screwing his shot wide from a difficult angle.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 10th minute when a cynical and crude challenge by Jack Braid on Ant Follows resulted in a brief melee before referee Matthews branded a red card.

On 12 minutes Scott Broadway thought he had given the home side a deserved lead finding the back of the net only to be denied by a late offside flag. The striker was not to be denied and put them ahead three minutes later, seizing on a mistake at the heart of the Wyrley defence, racing clear to slot home from 15 yards.

For all their pressure Darlo could not extend their lead Sam Giles, Tyrone Clarke O'Connell and Broadway all failing to convert half chances. Wyrley were restricted to rare advances on the home goal but centre forward Louie Mason and Chris Geldart impressed without creating any clear chances. the visitors best and only clear chance of the game came in the 28th minute a 25-yard Geldart free kick clipping the top of the cross bar.

Ant Follows never fully recovered from the Braid challenge which saw the Wyrley player sent off and hobbled off after 38 minutes to be replaced by Seweryn Brzostowski. As half time approached the home side were dominant, Clarke O'Connell, Brzostowski and Broadway all shooting wide when well placed.

Just 3 minutes into the second half the home side doubled their lead a Sam Giles free kick finding Zuki Stanton who poked the ball home from 4 yards at the second attempt. On 56 minutes, a James Filkins through ball found Hughes who glided past two defenders only to see his 15-yard angled drive strike the foot of the post and rebound to safety.

Broadway netted his second of the game and sixth of the season to settle the game on 61 minutes, Filkins again the provider, his through ball splitting the visitors defence, Broadway easily converted slotting past the advancing keeper from 12 yards.

Numerous half chances came the way of the home side before substitute Liam Cox netted the fourth goal with just 4 minutes remaining. A left-wing corner from Clarke O'Connell was majestically headed home from 8 yards as Cox leaped high above the Wyrley defence to power his header home giving the keeper no chance.

Without playing their most fluent football of the season Darlo took full advantage of the Wyrley sending off and following Tipton Town's defeat against Old Wulfs are now the only unbeaten side in the Division.

This Saturday they travel to Tipton Sports Academy where Bustleholme are their hosts kick off 3.00pm.
