Darlaston welcome Walsall Town Swifts to the Paycare Ground tomorrow evening for a first round J.W. Hunt Cup match. Kick off 7.45 pm

Tomorrow, Darlaston play their rearranged first round J.W. Hunt Cup match of the season when they welcome Walsall Town Swifts to the Paycare Ground for Darlaston’s’ first competitive game under their new floodlights. Kick-off is at 7.45 p.m. The official opening of the lights has been arranged for Tuesday 5th November when Darlaston will welcome EFL Division 2 side Walsall FC for the occasion.

Walsall Town Swifts are a newly formed team who joined Division Two of the West Midlands (Regional) League this season having been formed by ex-Walsall Player and Commercial Manager Wayne Thomas

At the request of the Official Walsall Supporters Trust, who have been looking for the past 25 years to resurrect and associate the name Swifts with a Walsall team because of the name’s strong historical links with Walsall Football Club. After the formation of the t, Thomas appointed Adam Pearce as First Team Manager assisted by ex-Crystal Palace man Steve Taylor and Earl Grant. They are playing their home games at Walsall Wood F.C.

So far this season, Walsall Town Swifts have had a mixed bag of results and currently sit in sixth place in Division of ten teams. They have played six games so far winning two, drawing one and losing three. The first game of the season unfortunately produced a 2-1 loss against Newport Town relegated last season from Division One. The followed game produced a 7-1 thumping of Worcester Raiders Reserves Dante Taylor scoring a hat-trick and Shane Holmes two of the other four goals.

Swifts third league game saw their second loss of the season a 4-0 reverse at title favourites AFC Bentley. Swifts were back on form with a 7-0 thumping of AFC Bridgnorth Development in their next fixture, Grant Winwood and Carl Martin helping themselves to two goals each.

September produced a creditable 2-2 draw against Church Stretton at Walsall Wood. Next up a local derby against Hawkins Sports, in The Staffordshire County FA Vase, Swifts taking the honours with a 3-0 away win, a brace from Shane Holmes and Dante Taylor both adding to their already impressive seasons total.

Walsall Town Swifts have only played one game in October after last Saturdays second round Staffordshire County FA Vase match against Redgate Clayton Reserves was postponed. Previous to that Swifts travelled into Shropshire to face Church Stretton in a league fixture, returning home with their third league loss after their hosts won 3-2 once again Shane Holmes scored a second brace in as many games, he appears to be in fine form

With the likes of, ex-Darlaston midfielder Dave Richards along with players such as the quality of Grant Winwood, Liam and Scott Sandland Mark Habbershaw and Craig Bannister, alongside inform strikers Dante Taylor and Shane Holmes Walsall Town Swifts will be no push-over for Andy Parkes and his squad.

After Saturdays’ 2-1 win at Cradley Town, the whole of the first team squad and management are really looking forward to the first competitive game under lights at The Paycare Ground. As usual the squad are expected to be without long-term injury victims Andy Hill and Tyrone Clark-O’Connell. It would appear that the remainder of the squad are fit, so once again the management will have some difficult decisions to make on who to select for their 16-man squad, let alone the starting XI.

Kick-off is at 7.45 p.m. – Entrance is £5.00 Adults, £3.00 Concessions, £1.00 Children between 10-16 and Under 10’s Free.

Season Ticket holders are reminded that their Season Tickets are not valid for tomorrow’s game.
