Darlaston's supporters and sponsors enjoyed the opportunity to find out where the club and first team are before the new season starts

Tuesday evenings Chairman and Manager question and answers evening proved to be a real success, Neil, Dean and the club would wish to express their gratitude and thanks to everyone who attended.

Attended by between 35 and 40 supporters and sponsors along with Dean’s management team and club committee members

The evening started with the Club Chairman bringing everyone up to date with what’s been happening since the end of the season, including all Ground Grading Improvements required to bring the ground up to required level to play at Step 5 of the NLS, all works have to be completed by 31st March 2023. The works required will be partially covered by grants.

Neil also went on to update everyone on the Ladies team as well as the proposed number of youth teams for the new season. The club are also delighted that ex-player Danny Mayne will be holding a Summer Soccer School in August a first for the club.

Manager Dean Gill then explained his journey from when he started managing youth football at Wednesfield in 2006 and how and why he became Darlo manager. Several players who played for him in 2006 still play for him today.

Dean went on to discuss last season’s achievement and apologised for disappointment and performance in Birmingham FA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup Final.

Moving onto next season when Darlaston will face several clubs have substantial budgets financed by benefactors, whilst many others have big budgets, we will not necessarily compete with them financially but look to close the gap in other ways by working smarter. For example, improving everything they possible can during training and before games including nutrition, fitness, hydration, gym work as well as bringing in some new faces.

Dean did go on to say the club already has fantastic support but urged everyone to encourage family friends work colleagues even neighbours to come and watch a home game and see if they get the Darlo bug.

Both the Chairman and Manager took questions from everyone on many matters and subjects, it appears the evening was a big success

I caught up with Dean this morning who said " A great evening with the level of support on the night shows the value of such events. It’s important as many people as possible understand what we’re looking to achieve.

Since Tuesday evening I have received fantastic feedback and it’s something we will do again".
