Walsall Town Swifts are travelling to Darlaston for tomorrows first round clash in this seasons J.W. Hunt Cup

Tomorrow, Darlaston play their first Cup game of the season when they welcome Walsall Town Swifts to the Paycare Ground for Darlaston’s’ first competitive game under their new floodlights. Kick-off is at 7.45 p.m. The official opening of the lights has been arranged for Tuesday 5th November when Darlaston will welcome Walsall FC for the occasion.

Walsall Town Swifts are a newly formed team have joined Division Two of the West Midlands (Regional) League this season having been formed by ex-Walsall Player and Commercial Manager Wayne Thomas

At the request of the Official Walsall Supporters Trust, who have been looking for the past 25 years to resurrect and associate the name Swifts with a Walsall team because of the name’s strong historical links with Walsall Football Club. After the formation of the t, Thomas appointed Adam Pearce as First Team Manager assisted by ex-Crystal Palace man Steve Taylor and Earl Grant. They are playing their home games at Walsall Wood F.C.

So far this season, Walsall Town Swifts have had a mixed bag of results and currently sit in sixth place in Division of ten teams. They have played five games so far winning two, drawing one and losing two. The first game of the season unfortunately produced a 2-1 loss against relegated Newport Town. The followed game produced a 7-1 thumping of Worcester Raiders Reserves Dante Taylor scoring a hat-trick and Shane Holmes two of the other four goals.

Swifts third league game saw their second loss of the season a 4-0 reverse at title favourites AFC Bentley. Swifts were back on form with a 7-0 thumping of AFC Bridgnorth Development in their next fixture, Grant Winwood and Carl Martin helping themselves to two goals each.

September has seen a creditable 2-2 draw at Church Stretton and in their last League game a 3-0 win at Hawkins Sports 10 days ago.

With the likes of, ex-Darlaston midfielder Dave Richards and defender Nathan Jackson, along with players such as the quality of Dante Taylor, Grant Winwood, Liam Sandland Mark Habbershaw and Craig Bannister, Walsall Town Swifts will be no push-over for Andy Parkes and his squad.

After Saturdays’ 0-0 result at Black Country Rangers, the whole of the first team squad and management are really looking forward to the first competitive game under lights at The Paycare Ground.

As usual the squad will be without long-term injury victims Andy Hill and Tyrone Clark-O’Connell. The injury victims Ryan Jones and Romano Graham may be in contention for selection to the squad, especially being as T.J. Davis has decided to leave the Club for pastures new and we wish T.J. all the very best for whatever the future holds.

Kick-off is at 7.45 p.m. – Entrance is £5.00 Adults, £3.00 Concessions, £1.00 Children between 10-16 and Under 10’s Free. Season Ticket holders are reminded that their Season Tickets are not valid for tomorrow’s game.
