A Louis Baker goal on 88 minutes giving the underdogs a 2-2 draw and a replay on Wednesday

A television audience of tens of thousands and 975 paying spectators witnessed an enthralling Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round Cup Tie at the Guardian Warehousing Arena. A Louis Baker goal on 88 minutes giving the underdogs a 2-2 draw and a replay on Wednesday at The Paycare Stadium kick off 7.45pm.

It was Northern Premier League Khalsa who made the better start and Darlaston were thankful to young keeper Will O'Sullivan who made an excellent smothering save in the 2nd minute to deny Toumani Sidibe.

Khalsa took the lead on four minutes. A Darlaston fee kick into the Khalsa penalty area was taken by former Darlaston keeper Sam Arnold who immediately sent a long raking kick into the path of Sidibe who turned Alex Foreshaw on the edge of the box and finished superbly giving keeper O'Sullivan no chance.

It took Darlaston a while to settle but as they did so, they created a good chance on 10 minutes. Some excellent short passing between Ryan Winwood, Jaes Rowland and Lewis Gill eventually saw Rowland find space on the edge of the box, his 18-yard effort saved comfortably by Arnold.

Sean Williams was a thorn in Darlaston's side on the right wing, but the visitors stood strong as they eventually got a foothold in the game.

The equaliser came on 20 minutes following a fine flowing move. A long raking crossfield pass by Ben Podmore found Josh Jones on the right flank, Jones exchanged passes with Rowland and Louis Baker before pulling the ball back, from the touchline into the path of Bishop who set up Ben Priest to slot home from 15 yards.

Bishop and Baker combined deep in the Khalsa half, Bishop laying into the path, Baker's attempted chip over keeper Arnold going wide. Khalsa's Curvin Sanderson - Ellis headed wide when well positioned whilst Keeper O'Sullivan saved comfortably after some good approach work by Todd Ferrier. O'Sullivan was again called into action saving from Williams.

The game was fairly even with neither side asserting themselves and defences and midfield on top.

On 33 minutes a Louis Baker chip from 18 yards clipped the top of the bar with Arnold beaten. Darlaston were dealt a blow on 41 minutes when goalscorer Ben Priest tweaked his hamstring when stretching for a ball and could take no further part in the game Kalo Harrison his replacement.

With the game approaching half time Khalsa went in front for the second time and again it was Sidibe on target. A Sean Williams cross into the penalty area was not cleared by the visitors, Sidibe pouncing to volley home from six yards.

Within two minutes of the restart Darlaston had a superb opportunity to equalise. Aaron Bishop's slide rule pass inside the full back found Josh Jones, who slipped past Arnold only for the keeper to send him tumbling. Unfortunately, Gill's poor spot kick to Arnold's left was easily saved.

If Khalsa had the edge in the first half it was Darlaston who had the better of the second half.

On 49 minutes Kalo Harrison burst into the box, laying the ball back to Liam Wilkinson whose right foot shot with the outside of his foot went a yard over the bar.

Baker and Bishop again combined on 58 minutes, Bishop's reverse pass finding Baker on the edge of the box, Baker snatching at his shot which hit the side netting. A minute later Baker was again off target shooting high and wide.

The game went into a quiet period neither side creating any clear-cut opportunities.

Midway through the half, in search of the equaliser Darlaston boss Dean Gill sacrificed influential midfielder James Rowland for substitute striker Kieron Miller, who immediately made an impact with his physical presence.

Khalsa's Matt Fulloway headed wide from a corner and a Williams shot was blocked by Lewis Gill with Sanderson-Ellis well placed.

A Lewis Gill free kick on 76 minutes caused havoc in the Khalsa box, both Miller and Baker failing to get a shot off under pressure from Tesfa Robinson and Fulloway.

O'Sullivan made a fine save from James McGrady, but it was Darlaston who gained their just rewards with a fully deserved equaliser on 88 minutes.

As the game was drawing to a close, a Josh Jones corner found Podmore whose six-yard shot was blocked, it fell to Bishop whose shot was also blocked, but it was third time lucky as the ball fell to Baker who drove low and hard into the bottom corner.

Both sides return to action on Wednesday night, the replay at The Paycare Stadium kick off 7.45pm.
