This was 1874's first ever visit to the Beeches, Tividale - the new home of Wrens Nest FC following their move from Handrahan Sports at The Mile Flat, Kingswinford. Last season, Darlo clocked up a win and a draw and their undefeated record remained intact as they once again recorded a 2-2 draw away from home.
New signing Aaron Morris marked his debut in goal against his former club with a blistering performance. Without his presence, Darlo would certainly have tasted defeat for the first time this season as he denied the Wrens on four or five occasions.
An element of bad luck saw Luke Charlton record his first ever home goal on 21 minutes, when he attempted to head clear a high ball which had floated in from the right, however his touch saw him deflect the back header high past Morris and to everyone's dismay found the corner of the net. Ten minutes later, Sam Giles made a superb run from just inside the Wrens Nest down the left and his neatly timed cross found 19 year old Sam Melia to his right who burst the net with a superb strike.
The hosts dominated early in the second half, and their continued persistence paid off when Garth Hadden netted on 52 minutes. Darlaston were forced to dig in their heels, but never really made any impression until the hour mark after which Hayden Hughes had been introduced for Dean Williams. Hayden's appearance was more than welcome and within three minutes were denied a golden opportunity when a Sam Melia strike was denied by the post, and although the rebound fell to Hayden Hughes, his precision shot was somehow cleared off the line. Darlaston continued to press forward and on 77 minutes, Hughes notched up his first goal of the season following some superb work from Sam Giles. With full time looming, Darlaston were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after Sam was floored by Craig Beresford. Following Beresford's surprise dismissal, Sam Giles stepped up and his reaction was evident as his neat strike rebounded off the corner post.
