Tomorrow evening there is another massive game at the Paycare Stadium when Darlaston face yet another top six side when hard chasing Highgate United will also want to add a win to their recent performances to help them cement a play-off place.
Darlaston’s recent form has been excellent but so also has Highgate, who last night beat league runners-up Lichfield Town 2-1 at their Tythe Barn Lane home. Highgate are currently in 6th position in the league having at least two or three games in hand over all of the play-off teams with the exception of Darlaston where they have just one and a win for either team tomorrow night will be hugely important.
Highgate have suffered like most teams with a significant number of postponements and their last six league games have seen a return of three wins, two losses and a draw. Their run started with a 2-1 away defeat at then league leaders Congelton Town in mid-March which also saw three Highgate players receive red cards at some stage during the fixture, Aaron Brown, skipper Shey Palmer and keeper Reece Francis.
The following Saturday Highgate welcomed Northwich Victoria to their Tythe Barn Lane ground, winning 4-1. A mid-week trip to Shifnal Town at the Acoustafoam Stadium produced a good performance and a 2-0 win, Mooney & Mandy scoring the goals. A big game at home against play-off rivals Studley saw a disappointing 2-1 loss.
Last Saturday saw a hastily rearranged game after a postponement at the Beeches the home of Tividale. The clubs were able to arrange a Saturday evening game taking place at the home of Redditch United on the astro pitch, Highgate drawing 1-1 after Tividale had taken the lead.
Last night Highgate welcomed Lichfield City to their home ground. Lichfield took the lead early on in the first half. Highgate equalised and scored the winner into the second half to secure an extremely valuable three points. Their win handed Congleton Town the league title without kicking a ball.
Darlaston meanwhile, after suffering the postponement at Stone Old Alleynians last night have had an additional 48 hours rest, which given the recent programme could prove important. But in saying that manager Dean Gill ensured that the players trained last night to maintain their level of fitness and with no major injury concerns within the squad, he will have a full squad to select from in what could be one of the seasons most pivotal games at the Paycare Stadium tomorrow evening.
