Darlaston Town return to league action tomorrow evening when they play a rearranged game at Bewley Town following the postponement of the original game due to be played on Saturday 30th January.
The recent heavy rain along with the river Severn which runs alongside the ground bursting its banks in the first few days of 2024 is a major reason why Bewley have only played five games in the past eight weeks.
It would appear tomorrows hosts are having an exceptionally difficult time this season as they are currently bottom of the table 14 points from safety after playing 18 league games that have produced a single win and draw, scoring less than a goal a game, but conceding more than 4 goals a game as well.
In their last five league games Bewley have been beaten at AFC Wulfrunians 6-1 and 6-0 at Uttoxeter Town. In the big Boxing Day local derby just down the river at Stourport Swifts Bewdley conceded another five unanswered goals in a 5-0 win. On their return to the riverside ground in the middle of January Bewdley were beaten by the same score by inform Dudley Town and last Saturday Whitchurch Alport travelled to Bewdley and returned home with a 3-0 win.
Last Saturday Darlaston travelled to League leaders Congleton Town played in front of nearly 700 souls and despite losing 3-1 Darlaston put in an outstanding shift the only difference between the two teams was the taking of chances.
It is hoped that some of the six players that missed Saturday’s fixture will be available for tomorrow evening’s game as it is really important, the Darlaston get back to winning ways as soon as possible, especially within the next eight days when after tomorrow night’s fixture Darlaston will play at Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday and welcome for the first time to the Paycare Stadium MFL Division Three side Feckenham for a first round of this seasons, Smedley, Crook Memorial Cup tie.
