Tomorrow evening Darlaston Town hope of return to league action when they are due to travel to Stourport Swifts for a rearranged fixture that was due to take place at the beginning of November.
After Stourport’s home fixture against Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, it is anticipated that tomorrow night‘s game may also require a late afternoon pitch inspection, as of yet nothing has been arranged though.
The league positions of both clubs has not greatly changed since the postponed fixture in November. They are currently both in sixth and seventh position separated, purely by goad difference having played an equal number of games they both won six games, drawn six and lost two. The only difference is Darlaston have a plus 7 goal difference gold difference whereas Stourport Swifts are on -1 both have 24 points. Therefore, the importance of tomorrow night fixture cannot be understated as both clubs will look to secure a play-off place between now and the end of January.
Darlaston’s, last game was the 25th of November just over two weeks ago, whereas Swifts progressed in to the Fourth Round of the Isuzu FA Vase, travelling to Eastwood Community, beating them 4-1 securing a home tie against the winners of Ashby Ivanhoe or fellow Midland football League Premier Division side who will try to play their fixture for a third time next Saturday.
Both Stourport and Darlaston only played two fixtures in November, Stourport drawing 1-1 at Home at Walshes Meadow against Litchfield City and a 3-3 entertaining draw at Whitchurch Alport. Where as Darlaston Town beat Dudley Town 3-2 with a James Rowland injury time penalty at the Paycare Stadium and suffered to a late 2-1 loss at Northwich Victoria having had Kieron Miller sent off who will serve his one match ban tomorrow evening.
Danger men for Swifts include Ben Tilbury who has scored 10 goals in 18 games, followed by Aaron Birch with 5 in 18, Adam Hanson with 3 in 8 games. The rest of the goals have been shared around the squad.
Darlaston, meanwhile trained on a regular basis, as we all know there’s nothing like playing competitive games and the squad are anxious to get back to competitive football, especially with the games coming up pre-Christmas as they face three games in eight days culminating with a huge local derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Paycare Stadium next Tuesday evening.
