Darlaston Town travel tomorrow up the M6 into Cheshire for the first time to face Northwich Victoria at their new home at Barton Stadium in Winsford.
The teams recently met in the Midland Football League Premier Division on 11th November at the Paycare Stadium; the game finished in a 2-2 draw. Darlaston played over 65 minutes with ten men after Lewis Gill received a straight red card. Northwich scored first with Sam Unwin scoring in the 15th minute. Darlaston equalised from the first attack following kick off, after Aaron Bishop was pushed to the floor by a Vic’s defender, James Rowland dispatched the penalty to bring the scores level.
Darlaston went in front in the 59th minute, Aaron Bishop scoring and despite their best endeavours Darlaston could not hold out the visitors and Northwich Victoria equalised in the 88th minute when Sam Unwin scored his second goal of the game.
Since this fixture, Northwich Victoria’s scheduled fixture at Tividale last weekend fell foul of the weather, but mid-week Northwich arranged a friendly against Avro who play in The Northern Premier League Division One West, a step higher than Northwich, Avro winning 4-1.
The Vic’s have also been busy adding to their squad securing the services of Jack Coop, Coby McWilliams, Joel Bembo-Leta and a returning Northwich Victoria legend Brandon Barski, so Darlaston are sure to be facing a different starting eleven for tomorrow’s fixture.
After the fabulous result and performance on Wednesday evening in coming from behind to draw 4-4 against West Bromwich Albion and winning their first penalty shootout of the season 5-4 to progress into the Third Round of the Birmingham Senior Cup, manager Dean Gill will be without Lewis Gill who is suspended for his final game of his three-game ban following his sending off against tomorrow’s opponents and he will also be without Josh Jones for at least a further week or two and long term injury victim Reece Mason who requires surgery on his injured knee.
Wednesday’s win will hopefully give confidence to the squad as the club now enters an important part of the season with no cup football likely to be played before Christmas, it gives the management team and opportunity to concentrate on league football for a time, with important fixtures such as tomorrow’s game along with games against Romulus, Congleton Town and Stourport Swifts in the next 2-3 weeks.
