It will be a quick turn around for both teams following yesterday’s games as Darlaston Town face a trip to AFC Wulfrunians and will be looking to avenge their 3-1 defeat at the Paycare Stadium on Boxing Day.
Tomorrow’s opponents last two games have been at the Prestige Midlands Arena against the top two sides in the Division both vying for the title. Firstly a 0-0 draw against at that time League leaders Congleton Town, the draw allowed Lichfield City to take top spot, which they cemented with a 2-0 yesterday.
AFC Wulfrunians last six fixtures have produced, two wins, draws and losses. Firstly a 3-3 draw at the Guardian Warehousing Arena against inform Dudley Town, Dudley equalised in the 8th minute of extra time. The following Saturday AFC welcomed Tividale to the Prestige Midlands Arena winning 2-1. An away trip to third placed Studley saw a 3-2 loss after being 3-1 down at half time. Next up was another away trip to Wolverhampton Casuals. AFC put the game to bed in the first half going in at half time 2-0, Casuals came back in the second half scoring midway through to make it 2-1, but an extra time goal saw AFC Wulfrunians take an all important 3 points with a 3-1 win.
AFC Wulfrunians will no doubt want to put a dent in Darlaston’s push for a promotion place and will be looking to do the double over Dean Gill’s side. This season’s top scorer is Daniel, Munday with 11 goals, followed by skipper Bradley Maslen-Jones with7.
Darlaston, meanwhile will be recovering from Saturdays 4-0 win over third, placed Stourport Swifts with an Aaron Bishop hat-trick and James Roland penalty insuring a vital three points.
The two week break seemed to help Darlaston certainly recover from the knocks and injuries that players were carrying along with an impressive return for Kieran Cook. No doubt players will be under orders from manager Dean Gill to rest up over the weekend in advance of another vital fixture on Monday.
Tomorrow’s fixture promises much for both clubs and sets of supporters, and a large crowd is anticipated at the Prestige Midlands Arena.
