Yesterday’s 9-0 win was the club's biggest league win since being re-formed in 2014/15

Darlaston Town re-wrote the history books at The Paycare Stadium with a 9-0 win against Bewdley Town. The win is the club's biggest league win since being re-formed in 2014/15, their biggest win at The Paycare Stadium, the biggest league score and margin of victory in 61 years since beating Lye Town 13-2 on 24 November 1962.

Darlaston boss Dean Gill made 8 changes from the side that beat Feckenham in midweek, Tom Allsopp, Harry Chesterton, Ryan Winwood, James Rowland, Lewis Gill, Jack Downing, Aaron Bishop and Mitch Botfield all in the starting line up.

Darlaston made an electrifying start and were three goals to the good in the opening four minutes, all the goals of the highest quality. In the 2nd minute a Jack Downing 35-yard cross field pass found Rowland, who with his first touch of the ball sent in a pinpoint cross for Bishop to head home from six yards. Within a minute it was 2-0. The tenacity of Chesteron won the ball in midfield, the full back laying it off to Rowland who set up Gill to pull the ball back from the touchline, setting up Botfield who was on hand to calmly slot home from 8 yards. The third came less than a minute later. Straight from the kick off, Rowland won the ball and a four man move involving Rowland, Alex Foreshaw, Josh Jones and Bishop, saw Bishop's incisive pass split open the Bewdley defence to find Downing who beat his marker to cut inside and clip the ball over Matthew Williams in the Bewdley goal.

Bewdley were shell shocked, but to their great credit they recovered their composure and whilst Darlaston were on top, Bewdley players were giving their all, Joe Bevan and Ollie Taylor- Bradley their standout players.

The fourth goal came on 31 minutes, Bishop finding Rowland out wide on the right flank, not for the first time Rowland's accurate cross put the visitors under immense pressure, a defender turning the ball into his own net from a yard out, denying Downing a second goal as the striker was ready to pounce.

The second half was similarly one sided although the team spirit and work rate of Bewdley shone through as they looked to break forward at every opportunity, Bevan and Taylor-Bradley continuing to impress.

The fifth goal came on 48 minutes, a James Rowland corner causing confusion in the visitors defence, following a goal line scramble Bishop appeared to get the last touch. Darlaston extended their lead on 60 minutes, a Botfield cross turned into his own net by the unfortunate Bevan.

The flow of goals continued Tom Cottam with a superb, flicked header from a Gill corner on 65 minutes to make it 7-0. On 80 minutes, Cottam and Kieron Miller combined, Miller setting up Downing to drive high into the roof of the net from 10 yards with a ferocious shot, giving Williams in the Bewdley goal no chance.

The scoring was completed from the penalty spot on 87 minutes. An attempted back pass by Bewdley substitute Tyrese Segree was misplaced and as Miller pounced on the loose ball, he was brought down from behind by keeper Williams. Miller got up to confidently convert the spot kick for Darlaston's ninth and record breaking goal.

After the game Darlaston boss Dean Gill was delighted with the day, he reflected " Firstly massive respect to Gil Preece and our volunteer groundstaff. On a day when many local games were called off, Gil and his team worked hours on end to get the game on. I am immensely grateful for their efforts, and I am delighted that we turned in such a performance to reward their hard work. In the circumstances the pitch stood up remarkably well.

Secondly respect to Andy (Shaw - Bewdley manager) and his lads. They are going through a difficult time at the moment but their spirit, energy and work rate, even after going 3 down in 4 minutes was impressive. They played the game in a superb spirit, their heads did not drop, and they did not get on each others backs. That is a credit to Andy, the players and the club and will stand them in good stead in the future.

Thirdly my team. What can I say? A near perfect performance today. The opening three goals were all top drawer and gave us a fantastic base to work from. Our attitude remained spot on, and we did not allow our performance level to drop at any stage during the game. Every player, including the substitutes all did well today but a special mention to Harry Chesterton who was excellent at full back today. He is young and progressive with a bright future.

We know we will have harder games, but we enjoy the win today."
