It been a real quick turnaround for everyone at the club, because tomorrow we welcome not only a new team to the Midland Football League but also for the first time in the club’s history Congleton Town who were moved by the FA in their usual end of season reorganisation/allocation of clubs from the North West Counties League where they have played for more than 20 years.
Congleton’s adjustment to The Midland Football League started quite quickly with a visit to title favourites Lichfield City after beating Wythenshawe Town in The FA Cup on opening day, travelling to Lichfield saw a 2-0 loss followed by a big 4-0 home win against Uttoxeter Town.
Last weekend Congleton exited the Emirates FA Cup losing 2-1 at home to Witton Albion.
Saturday saw another yet another big trip with a visit to the side of River Severn at Stourport Swifts, despite taking the lead, Congleton lost 4-2, they then went 2-1 down after conceding two Ben Tilbury penalties. Congleton equalised after Dan Needham scored his second goal of the game at the beginning of the second half goals. Shortly after they conceded a third penalty, Tilbury’s effort was saved but Canavan scored the rebound, Stourport conceded a fourth late in the game chasing a point.
Last season Congleton played their football in the Premier Division South of The North West Counties League finishing in eighth place after a 42 game season in which they are winning nineteen games, drawing eight and losing fifteen, having finished one place lower in the first season back from Covid.
Darlaston meanwhile secured a late win at the Paycare Stadium after playing 63 minutes with 10 men after skipper Alex Foreshaw was shown a red card, Farid Mikidam scored in injury time to secure Darlo’s first win of the league season after two draws. The squad worked exceptionally hard yesterday and there are bound to be some seriously tired and sore legs today.
Darlaston’s management team will of course assess player fitness today and will hope the players are recovered in time for another big difficult extreme test tomorrow afternoon at the Paycare Stadium.
Once again, the game will kick-off at 3.00 p.m.
