The tie was settled by two defensive mistakes in three minutes mid-way through the first half.

Darlaston Town's Birmingham Senior Challenge Cup run came to an abrupt end as United Counties League side Racing Club Warwick avenged their FA Cup defeat at Darlaston in August with a comfortable win. The win takes them into the semi-final of this prestigious competition.

The visitors best chance of the game came early on when Kieron Miller beat keeper Paul Hathaway to the ball as the keeper raced from his area, Miller's header going wide. Hathaway requiring lengthy treatment.

The tie was settled by two defensive mistakes in three minutes mid-way through the first half. Firstly, a hand ball by Alex Foreshaw in the penalty area saw former Romulus striker Luke Shearer put the home side ahead from the penalty spot. Three minutes later, hesitancy at the heart of the defence allowed Cameron Ebbutt to double the lead from close range.

The home side had the edge with Shearer and Monaghan, impressive up front and causing all sorts of problems for an over worked Darlaston defence. Tom Cottam and Aaron Bishop had half chances, but it was the home side who had the edge in the opening 45 minutes.

The second half was a different matter as the home side dominated for large periods. Darlaston simply could not get out of first gear as the home side were first and second to most balls, playing some excellent attractive football and could have added to their tally. Carsley firing wide across the face of goal, Monaghan shooting inches wide and Shearer rattling the cross bar. A very professional and uncomplicated performance from Racing Club who thoroughly deserved their place in the semi-final draw.

Following the game Darlaston boss Dean Gill could not hide his disappointment, " For the first time in a very long time we were second best for long periods tonight. Racing Club were as a good a side as we have played this season and did not allow us to get into second gear tonight. We could not get anything going and that is entirely the consequence of their quality, work rate and organisation. As a manager you have to accept that in some games the opposition are better than you and by some distance that was the case tonight. It might sound funny to say but you can admire the way the opposition play and at times I did tonight.

We will put the performance and result behind us very quickly and look to get back on track very quickly."
