Despite four changes to Darlaston's defence and goalkeeper a solid performance provided the backbone for Darlo's win

Darlaston Town booked a home J W Hunt Cup Second Round tie, against fellow MFL Premier Division side Stone Old Alleynians, following an emphatic 4-0 win against West Midlands Regional (League) Division Two side Wombourne Allstars.

Darlaston boss Dean Gill reshuffled his back four from the side that lost to Dudley Town at the weekend. He gave debuts to new signings Tom Hurdman and Lewis Worsey, with youngster Harvey Coley making his second appearance of the season, in goal. Ben Priest replaced skipper Alex Foreshaw, Ben Podmore the only surviving defender from four days earlier.

As you would expect from a side playing three Divisions higher than their opponents, Darlaston had the lions share of possession against a spirited, lively and energetic Wombourne side that played some neat football in snatches.

Visiting keeper Rheece Dawes made several first half saves from Rivel Mardenborough and Aaron Bishop, but could do little about three first half goals, which effectively settled the tie for the home side. Darlaston took the lead on 12 minutes courtesy of a Tyler Newell own goal, as he desperately tried to clear a goal bound effort from Ben Podmore.

Debutant full back Lewis Worsey was on the scoresheet 6 minutes later, combining well with Lewis Gill down the left flank, cutting inside before drilling the ball hard and low across the goal line to deceive Dawes with a fine finish

Josh Robinson impressed for the visitors as did striker Dan Hall, whilst the experienced Dan and Jon Patrick were calm and composed on the ball.

However, it was pretty much all Darlaston as midfielder James Rowland added a third and decisive goal on 29 minutes.

Both managers made several second half changes, the second half following pretty much the same pattern as the first 45 minutes. Substitutes Charlie Manners and Leo Gill adding a spark and pace as they both went close to adding to the goal tally on several occasions but could not beat keeper Dawes.

The fourth and final goal was another Tyler Newell own goal on 69 minutes, again the defender could do little about it in his attempt to divert a Lewis Gill inswinging corner away from the near post, all the luckless Newell could do was glance the ball into his own net.

Darlaston are without a game this Saturdaty and have arranged a friendly next Wednesday evening against Midland Football League Division One side AFC Bridgnorth kick off 7.30 pm.

The friendly is the first game in a busy November which includes two League fixtures against Northwich Victoria, as well as travelling to promotion chasing Stourport Swifts for their first league game of the month on Saturday 4th November.

There are definitely two cup ties at least when Darlaston travel to Hednesford in the Walsall Senior Cup as well as entertaining West Bromwich Albion at the Paycare Stadium and following last nights win the club will look to arrange their Second Round JW Hunt Cup tie against Stone Old Alleynians as soon as possible.
Off the field please come and support tomorrow evenings Race Night at the Paycare Stadium, a night that will raise a lot of money for the club. Doors open at 7pm first race is at 8 pm, and food will be on sale throughout the evening, a great opportunity to have a family night out.
