Worcester Raiders wins at Old Wulfs and Team Dudley allowed them take head the Division and push Darlaston into second place

home at Eccleshall F.C. after having no game last weekend.

Even though Darlaston didn’t kick a ball, they were replaced at the top of Division One by Worcester Raiders after they beat Old Wulfs 2-1 in mid-week with an injury time winner. Last Saturday they travelled to Team Dudley to take on Lee Mills’ side winning 2-0 with a goal in each half.

Worcester Raiders now head the Division by a single point and still have two games in hand, tomorrow they face Sikh Hunters at their Claines Lane home.

Returning back to the Team Dudley game, we understand that Team Dudley’s Jack Bailey was taken to hospital with a broken leg. I am sure that everyone from Darlaston Town 1874 would wish Jack a speedy and healthy recovery.

It was only in mid-January that Darlaston Town played in Newport at The Paycare Ground winning 7-0 due to a Tyrone Clarke-O’Connell hattrick along with goals from Daniel Bolzon, Ashley Evans, Leon Taylor and Captain Scott Glasby. At the time of the match Newport Town were having to reorganise following the resignation three weeks earlier of their full management team led by ex-Wolves striker Adam Proudlock and losing the majority of their players.

Since the game on 19th January 2019 Newport visited the following week their close rivals Telford Juniors, the game ending in a 1-1 draw with Callum Muir scoring for Newport. A weekend off at the beginning of February helped Newport reorganise more, they resumed action with a 4-2 loss at Team Dudley on the 3G plastic at Priory Road. A midweek game in the Shropshire F.A. Premier Club against West Midlands Regional League Premier side A.F.C. Bridgnorth 2-1 at their Crown Meadow Stadium ended in a close 2-1 win for their hosts. Since that mid-week game on February 19th Newport have only played two further games, both at the beginning of March.

A 3-0 home win against rivals Telford Juniors at Eccleshall, goals from Benjamin Gardner, Sam Robinson and Benjamin Summers secured the points. Following that win, Newport entertained in mid-week under lights at their new home, near neighbours Wellington Amateurs losing out 2-0 to goals from Steve Faux and George Lees.

Last weekend’s fixture against Gornal Athletic at Eccleshall the third on the consecutive game at home was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

As the Season end comes close, Newport have eight fixtures remaining including three mid-week games to ensure that the games are played before the end of April. Obviously with the heavy amount of rain this weekend, we have already been advised that the game may be under threat and as posting this article, Newport are waiting to hear from their Landlords about the current pitch condition and once further details are available, we will of course update you via the website.

In any event, irrespective of Newport’s circumstances, any game against Newport is a hard one. Over the previous Seasons’ there have been some right hard games against tomorrow’s opponents and Andy Parkes and Scott Moore do not expect any different. Newport will be looking to consolidate their mid-table position, whereas given Darlaston’s challenge for promotion, nothing but a win would be acceptable.

The Management duo have pushed their lads in training because of the lack of game last weekend and the players, despite recent events, go into the game in exceptionally good spirits and a good frame of mind.

There are no fitness worries and the Manager will be selecting from a fully fit squad.

So why not get yourself on the M6 tomorrow to drive to Junction 14 to support Darlaston in their quest. Kick-off is at 3.00 p.m.

The ground address is; Eccleshall F C, Pershall Park, Chester Road, Eccleshall, ST21 6NE

We hope to see you tomorrow.
